Townsendia jonesii var. lutea

$18.00
sold out

Alplains collection: 50828.23 (W) Sevier Co., UT, 5620ft, 1713m. Ethereal yellow, stemless daisies. The reverse of the petals is lavender, imparting a mysterious tangerine overtone to the flower color. Elusive dweller of Arapien Shale deposits. Occasional cream forms in this population. On shale ridges

The ground Daisies are some of the best crevice garden plants you can get, I do find them tricky and not terribly long lived in my wet northwest winters, but the years I get them through the reward is huge, Give them a very well drained site with full sun. In case you are wondering about the rocks these grow on I did find this:

“Arapien Shale to Arapien Formation. Composed of light-gray limestone and shale and locally interbedded red to brown sandstone and intraformational limestone conglomerate layers. Occurs as isolated exposures in southern part of quad, Piute Co, UT on the Wasatch uplift. Is younger than the Navajo Sandstone and older than an unnamed Cretaceous to Oligocene conglomerate. Assigned to the Middle Jurassic” Hardy, C.T. 1952
